Tuesday, 7:30 pm (Reception 6:30-7:15 pm)

The Kosciuszko Foundation: 15 E 65th St, NYC

ArcoStrum, the violin-guitar duo of Strauss Shi and TY Zhang, brings a distinctive combination of artistry and repertoire to the concert stage. In 2023, they became the first violin-guitar duo in the 70+ year history of the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition to win both the main prize and the Audience Prize. Shi, a three-time international competition winner, and Zhang, the first Chinese guitarist to win the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition, formed their partnership while students at The Juilliard School. Their collaboration has since developed into an active performing career with appearances across the United States, Mexico, and China.

This program highlights their broad range of musical interests and their commitment to presenting familiar works alongside less frequently heard repertoire. Transcriptions of Scarlatti and John Williams are heard alongside selections from Piazzolla’s The History of Tango and his Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. The program also includes Ink Orchid Pavilion by Zhihui Li and Horse Racing by Haihuai Huang, two works that reflect the duo’s engagement with music of contemporary Chinese composers
