Like the ocean, our ancestors remind us of the inherited strength within us. This program explores that power through music that bridges nature, history, and justice. Katherine Hoover’s Winter Spirits opens with a call to connect with nature’s spirituality, while Bach’s Partita in A minor grounds us in music’s deep foundations. William Grant Still’s Mother and Child reflects the gift and responsibility of nurturing life, and Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson’s arrangement of Amazing Grace calls us to remember our shared humanity. The program culminates in the world premiere of Tyler Taylor’s new Flute Concerto: Waves of Voices, a tribute to the persistent justice embodied by L. Alex Wilson—Adam W. Sadberry’s grandfather and a celebrated journalist honored at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
